Advancing Guitar

Learning open string major scales for guitar in many keys is an area often overlooked by guitarists. This lesson covers the keys of C, D, A and E majors and is the basis for the other lessons in the Advancing Guitar series. You will be shown how to create and play the scales across the fret board and how the scales are constructed.

This second lesson of the advancing guitar player course Ross Baird explains and demonstrates how you can play the same melody in various keys in open position. A skill you really need as a guitar player and one that will mean you are not stuck playing a song in just one key.

In this third lesson of the series advancing guitar right hand rhythm patterns are demonstrated and discussed. If your rhythmic playing is stuck in a rut or you've never actually looked into how you can improve the ideas and patterns you use, then Ross Baird provides you with an excellent source of new material to practice.

The forth lesson in the Advancing Guitar series is given over to learning how Major seventh and suspended chords (both sus2 and sus4) can be used to brighten up a basic chord progression. The chord shapes and voicings are all discussed in great detail as well as demonstrated by guitarist Ross Baird. You will then use the new chords over the song Heading Home that you learned in the last lesson.

There are a huge amount of incredibly beautiful chords that you can easily learn with some simple chord shapes you will probably already know. Ross Baird takes you through how to find, generate and name a range of incredibly complex and exotic sounding chords with some very simple guitar chord shapes. This lesson builds on all the work previously outlined in the series.

Understanding what an arpeggios is and how it works with chords and scales to make melodies is a fundamental skill you need as a guitar player. In this video you will use many of the elements previously discussed in the series to play numerous arpeggios in open string position.

In this lesson, Ross Baird introduces practice routines for guitar arpeggios, specifically looking at the A major arpeggio that was detailed in the last lesson. He gives you many different ways to really get the arpeggios covered under your fingertips as well as helping guitarists understand how they can best use these arpeggios.
