Britain's Great Cathedrals: To the Glory of God

The Reverend Pat Allerton begins his pilgrimage to visit some of Britain’s most magnificent cathedrals in London. At St Paul's he discovers how Sir Christopher Wren brought a new architectural design to England. In Canterbury, site of the oldest cathedral in England, he reflects on the life of the martyred Archbishop Thomas Becket, before visiting the country's tallest spire in Salisbury.

Pat Allerton visits three iconic cathedrals in the north of England. In Durham, he learns how the cathedral was built by the Normans just after the Battle of Hastings in 1066. In Coventry he learns of the suffering during WWII and the devastating raid which destroyed the 1000-year-old religious building. Finally, Pat travels to Lincoln Cathedral which was once the tallest building in the world.
