I Am Second Voyage; Smallest Powerboat Crossing the Atlantic

Ralph called his brother Bob to see if he wanted to embark on an Arctic voyage across the Atlantic from Florida to Germany in a 21 foot open fishing boat. They would be leaving without enough money to complete the voyage and have to sleep on board their cabin less boat with very little supplies to keep them warm. Fist they would have to finish re-building the boat and cruise up the east coat.

After arriving in New York and spending days doing repairs, hunting for more capital, visiting Time Square, they leave with lost contacts and head to Boston. Passing lobsters fishermen, incredible scenery including a short cut and a tall surprise along the waterfront. Ralph, the wildman driving, slows for nothing on this mission. Injured Bob has Ralph concerned about whether he will continue.

Bob and Ralph Brown are traveling along the coast of Canada passing wildlife, doing some fishing, and experiencing much colder weather. They are trying to locate enough money to complete their mission of becoming the smallest powerboat to cross the Atlantic Ocean. Some miles offshore they identify an iceberg a hundred feet tall and larger than a football field. So what do Florida boys do?

After meeting several other explorers up in the back country of Labrador, Canada, Bob and Ralph head back out to sea on the way to Greenland. The 625 mile trip doesn't go as easy as planned. After traveling past over 60 icebergs they stop naming them. Now the concern is will they have enough fuel to make it. They burn up 200 gallons of their 300 gallons of gas traveling only a third of the way.

Freezing and soaking wet the Brown brothers look at all options for help as they slowly run low on fuel hundreds of miles from land. This was supposed to be a 2 day voyage and they are way over due. Bob is hallucinating as he fights to stay awake, Ralph drives while Bob sleeps and battles to keep the mission alive. Help is only a phone call away and the trip could be over.

Traveling through the interior of lower Greenland, Ralph and Bob Brown get to see the real Greenland. How the locals live and get by including cleaning seal carcasses left behind by the hunters. They make friends everywhere and see the real beauty of the ice. Benzene the fuel of choice is a rare commodity as they travel northward towards 66 degrees where towns are hundreds of miles apart.

Ralph and Bob Brown's journey takes them to the strangest meeting places and the most unlikely coincidences in order to meet extraordinary people. The I Am Second boat is hauled out of the water for an oil change and a good going over by a excavator. A couple more donations and the trip is back on. Arriving in the Faroe Islands after dark could have easily evolved into a deadly situation.

While in the Faroe Islands, Bob and Ralph got the nick-name, the Last Vikings shortly after surviving nearly being sunk at night. In the Faroe Islands friends took them on personal guided tours and got a crane for lifting the boat out of the water for needed damage repair. They raced ahead of trailing Hurricane Bill and visited by a rescue chopper flying high above heading back the other way.

They showed us how dangerous it would be...the challenge was set...Go for it. There were these massive fishing trawlers and Bob got to inspected a prawn shrimp boat. Taking a break from the weather Bob and Ralph were invited for a specially cooked dinner inside a 20 foot sailboat...and then the cooking lesson with two donated luxury items. They said it's too dangerous, wait and they will come.

Bob and Ralph spend the night with the Coast Guard Guys before heading back out to sea. They meet up with Norm Miller of Interstate Battery and the I Am Second Organization and the trip nearly ends just crossing the harbour. They are closing in on London, the location for the Cross the Atlantic world record to terminate. The English Channel to France and get pulled over by the marine police.

Bob and Ralph were invited inside the Spider T just before the Mayer came for them. They found out the hard way that it was against the law to have more than two Jerry cans of gas. Again it was rumored that it is against the law to speed down the Rhine especially after dark. Ralph was given his blanket at the hospital.
