From the BerryWorks to Strawberry's Café, everyone is excited about who will win this year's Spring Flower Festival! Berry Bitty City is decorated with colorful banners proclaiming the big event. Lemon works the hardest. For weeks she has watered her violets by day and sung to them at night, doing everything she can to win first prize.
Strawberry Shortcake's friends watch her with wide eyes as she everrrrr-so-gently squirts a layer of blueberry smoothie into a tall glass, trying to not disturb the five other multi-colored layers beneath it. It's her tenth attempt to create the world's first Rainbow Smoothie! She has even painted one wall of her café rainbow colors in honor of the soon-to-be new item on the menu.
It's a busy day at Lemon's salon, a charming place that is more than just a hair salon; it's one of favorite places for Strawberry and her friends to relax and socialize. All the girls are getting their hair done for the gala grand opening of Mr. Longface's new lawn-bowling and croquet club.
Blueberry ordered some Zippy Gro daisy seeds and planted them in her garden. She is surprised that they've sprouted in less than a day despite their descriptive moniker. Strawberry comes by to admire them and Blueberry is reminded that the new cookbook Strawberry ordered has arrived.
Strawberry is at Orange's store to mail a birthday card to a friend in Big Bitty City. Just after she drops the card into the mail slot, an ill postal carrier bee sneezes sending envelopes and post cards flying in all directions. The two girls help Jadeybug, a postal clerk, and Postmaster Bee gather up the strewn letters and the ill bee gets sent home from work.
While rehearsing a song alone in her cafe, Strawberry is interrupted by the arrival of Jadeybug. The poor ladybug is stressed out because her twin cousins left her a message that they are coming to visit for a whole week. Jadey is unable to host them because she's having her guest room repainted. Over tea, Strawberry quickly offers to host them in the guest room at the café.
Plum decides to hold a dance recital at Strawberry's Café Cabaret stage and sends out a stack of invitations. She forgets, however, to check the sign-up sheet at the Café and schedules it for the same night as Blueberry is scheduled to read to the baby Berrykins. Strawberry tells Plum she cannot hold the recital in the Café on her chosen day because the Café is booked.
All of Berry Bitty City is gathered around to watch the last snowberrykin melt. As the last bit of snow forms a puddle, a cheer goes up - spring is here! It's now time for the annual BerryFest. But with Princess Berrykin out of town on business, who will be the BerryFest Princess and preside over the festival? Everyone is abuzz with how to go about choosing the Princess and her duties.
All of Berry Bitty City is excitedly making their way through the berry batch in search of the elusive Wanderberry. It is to be the dessert at the BerryFest Feast. Everyone is milling about searching for it on their own when Blueberry points out that the rules say the BerryFest Princess is in charge of the search.
Overhearing Blueberry reading a story to the baby Berrykins about the scary Galumphalot, Orange is uncharacteristically shaken. She determines she doesn't want anything scary around her, just relaxation. But while the girls are having a hair-styling party at Lemon's salon, a malfunction at the BerryWorks causes the whole town to go dark. And Orange begins to get really anxious.
Blueberry has become obsessed with the mystery book detective heroine, Patti Persimmon. She decorates her store with Patti posters and rearranges her shelves to make room for all the Patti books she's ordered. Blueberry begins to neglect outings with her friends and even goes so far as to dress like her idol just to emulate her. She then starts looking for cases to solve around town.
While in the midst of a cake decorating demonstration at the café, the girls are uncharacteristically interrupted by an excited Princess Berrykin. She announces the Berrykins have decided to revive the old tradition of the Berry Bitty Buggy Derby. The girls enthusiastically recount the stories they've heard about it and ask the Princess questions.
The grove around Berry Bitty City is abuzz with activity. The Berrykins are using their sparkles to harvest berries, Berrykin Bloom is in his garden spraying flowers with a special solution to make them larger, and Raspberry is nearby gathering flower petals to make perfume. The wind starts to blow and picks up some of the sparkles.
The girls are all gathered at the café. Strawberry is experimenting making applesauce from scratch with a mallet (and making a mess) while the rest busily make their own wrapping paper and bows for the annual gift exchange they hold in celebration of First Frost. Mr. Longface stops by and Strawberry offers him some fresh applesauce but he declines, as he doesn't care for it.
While sipping cider in Strawberry's café, the girls muse about how they cannot wait for winter to arrive. They list the various traditions they love about the season but the one they all agree on is the Glimmerberry Ball. Strawberry mentions that she doesn't think the café can hold the party this year because of how the town has grown.
Lemon is ecstatic. She races out of her salon and goes around to the other girls' houses proclaiming that she "did it!" and beckoning them to join her. They follow her back and are completely dazzled by her newest creation - Glamicures. They are brightly colored, jeweled manicures with tiny microchips inside that play songs when the wearer moves her hand.
While working in her store, Orange overhears the Berrykins laughing and shouting outside. When she goes to the door to investigate, a clump of dandelion fluff gets blown inside chased by three Berrykins. She watches as they head butt the clump around until it floats back toward Orange. Just as it floats close, she gives it a bat sending it outside and the Berrykins happily chasing after it.
While enjoying lunch in the café, the girls are interrupted by some music coming from the gazebo. They head outside and find Sadiebug and Kadiebug wearing badges and standing by a banner and podium. A group of chairs are set up in front of them. The twins begin to announce, and then argue, that they are starting a club - a good citizens club.
With all the Baby Berrykins running around Berry Bitty City, Princess Berrykin decides to build a Day Care Center and playground. But she's worried because it's dull-looking - all grey metal and brown wood. She asks Strawberry whom might be good to help her out. And two names immediately come to her mind - Lemon and Raspberry!
