The World Ends with You The Animation

Neku wakes up at a crossroads in Shibuya. It's a different dimension called the Underground (UG). Neku receives a message on his phone. "Head to 104. Fail and you will be eliminated." Neku is confused by the message. A mysterious enemy known as the "Noise" attacks Neku.

Shiki and Neku are now participants in the Reapers' Game. The duo heads for Spain-zaka to complete their mission. They meet a high-school girl that looks just like Shiki. Confused by this mysterious figure, Shiki feels distraught. Concerned by Shiki's reaction, Neku asks Shiki and learns the truth that will decide all participants' fate.

Shiki and Neku meet another two participants, Beat and Rhyme. They decide to help each other with their mission, which is to head for Tower Record. When the team is about to finish the mission, Yahiro and Kaniya summon a Noise to attack them.

Neku participates in a second Reapers' Game and partners up with Joshua. Joshua knows a lot about the game and Shiki's situation. Neku has doubts and suspicion about Joshua and tries to apprach him. As soon as Neku touches Joshua, he sees the scenery of Udagawacho. Participants shouldn't be able to scan each other.

Neku and Joshua arrive at Wild Cat Cafe on Cat Street. That shop belongs to Hanekoma, the player who assisted Neku in the first Reapers' Game. Hanekoma tells Neku to enjoy the present to the fullest. CAT once said the same thing. Minamimoto, a Game Master, has gone missing. The Taboo Noise appears out of nowhere and attacks both the participants and the Reapers.

Neku still doesn't trust Joshua, but he endures to survive the Reapers' Game to Shiki. Following the signal of Hanekoma's phone, the two arrive at the Shibuya River. The Taboo Noise attacks. Kariya notices something.

Neku and Joshua survive until the last day of the Reapers' Game. The final mission is to defeat the Game Master, Minamimoto. Carrying his distrust for Joshua, Neku heads to the final arena, Mark City. Beat appears as a Reaper.

Neku participates in the third Game. This is the final Game for him. He vows to finish the game and save everyone. He receives a message saying there can only be one participant. Without a partner, he can't use his special ability. Surrounded by Noises, Neku's life hangs by a thread.

To save Rhyme, Neku and Beat fight Yashiro and Kariya. An anomaly happens in Shibuya. Everyone is wearing the Red Skull pin designed by CAT, thus preventing their minds from being read. It shares a similar design with the Composer's pin. Neku believes the Composer is not CAT.

Three days left until the Game ends. Neku calms down the anxious Beat. The duo uses the pins they have to explore the places they can go. When a passerby passes through Neku's body, he hears a mysterious whisper, "So, this is the wonderful world."

Joshua has always wanted to visit the Shibuya River. That is also where the Composer is. Neku and Beat press forward. They are stopped by an unexpected figure, and what the person summons is even more surprising.

"Hanekoma, are you here?" Neku yells in the judgment room. The final enemy, the Composer, shows up. The countdown of destiny begins.
