Lucy tries to settle into life in Rome and does her best to fit in at her fancy new international school, even though her best friend Kyla is 6000 miles and several time zones away, but things get even more complicated for Lucy when she finds out that her new Italian pop-star stepmom, Francesca, wants Lucy to call her “Mom.”

Lucy takes Francesca’s advice to forget her problems at school by “living her best life” and attending a red carpet movie premiere gala with Francesca.

Lucy hopes the school trip to the historic Villa Adriana is the perfect time to reinvent herself and win over her new schoolmates… until Dad reveals he’ll be chaperoning, throwing a wrench into Lucy’s plans.

When Dad and Francesca go out of town to a conference for the weekend, Lucy tries to prove she’s mature enough to stay on her own, but as soon as she’s alone, the apartment seems a lot more spooky. To Dad’s surprise, everyone at the archaeological conference treats him like a rock-star instead of Francesca. Will he let it go to his head?

After Lucy’s only friend in Italy, Nico, gets a moped, and therefore the ability to go to the beach on the weekends, Lucy pleads with Dad to let her have one, too. But when Dad refuses, it sends Lucy into a tailspin of sweat, sand, and lies.

To thank Nico for being such a good friend, Lucy invites him to the VIP Party for the opening match of the Empire Europe Cup soccer tournament, but she’s surprised when someone else needs her friendship even more. Meanwhile, the only one more nervous than Francesca for her big performance is her assistant Emilia— and it’s stressing Francesca out!

Lucy, Dad, and Francesca take a trip to the Italian countryside to visit Francesca’s parents on their olive farm. Lucy learns a lot about farming, but even more about Francesca and her family. She also has a breakthrough about her own musical abilities. Without Lucy around, Kyla finds a surprising sympathetic ear in her lab partner Jimmy, who helps her cope after she loses a coveted drama award

Under Kyla’s tutelage, Lucy tries to figure out how to have a big, fun time in Rome, so she can write some kind of party song about it, but when the perfect opportunity falls into Lucy’s lap— an invite to Charlotte’s annual slumber party— Lucy worries she’s not actually ready to party.

Lucy is finally friends with both Nico and Charlotte. Yay! Unfortunately, for some mysterious reason from their past, they still don’t get along with each other. Boo! Lucy goes to great lengths to solve the mystery of their failing out and mend the rift. Back at the apartment, Dad and Francesca take a small problem and turn it into a high-stakes contest, revealing their intense competitive sides.

It’s Lucy’s 14th birthday! And it’s full of surprises! Especially since Lucy finds herself caught between feeling a little bit like a kid and a little bit like a grown-up… Francesca puts too much pressure on herself to find the perfect gift for Lucy that says, “I love you and I know you and I’m totally comfortable in a parental role.” Not an easy task!

With Francesca’s help, Lucy’s been recording songs which have gotten the attention of important people in the Italian music industry. Lucy is offered a huge opportunity— but it would change everything in her life… again, including putting her best friendship with Kyla to the test.
