Descent of a Serial Killer

A former police officer and suspected serial killer, Gerard John Schaefer Jr. (26 March 1946-3 December 1995) was imprisoned in 1973 for murders he committed while serving as a sheriff's deputy in Martin County, Florida. Convicted of two murders-and suspected of many more-Schaefer frequently appealed his conviction, all while privately boasting of killing more than 30 women and girls.

Known as the Gainesville Ripper, Daniel Harold Rolling (26 May 1954-25 October 2006), was an American serial killer who murdered five Florida students over four days in late August 1990.

Eddie Lee Mosley (31 March 1947-28 May 2020) was an American rapist and serial killer who murdered at least eight women in Florida between 1973 and 1987. After being the prime suspect for decades, he was finally arrested in 2001 following the results of a DNA-profiling test.

Bobby Joe Long (14 October 1953-23 May 2019) was an American serial killer and rapist who was executed by the state of Florida for the murder of Michelle Denise Simms. During an eight-month period in 1984, Long abducted, sexually assaulted, and murdered at least 10 women in the Tampa Bay Area. One victim-Linda Nuttall-survived.

Oscar Ray Bolin Jr. (22 January 1962-7 January 2016) was an American serial killer and convicted rapist who was ultimately executed in Florida. In 1986, Bolin kidnapped and murdered three young women in Tampa.

Chester Dewayne Turner was born in Warren, Arkansas in 1966 and, following his parents' separation, moved to Los Angeles with his mother at age five. After dropping out of high school, Turner lived with his mother until she moved to Utah. Homeless, he then bounced between various shelters and missions in downtown L.A.

Known as both the 'Hollywood Ripper' and the 'Chiller Killer', Michael Gargiulo is a native of Glenview, Illinois, where he stabbed his neighbour, 18-year-old Tricia Pacaccio, to death on her back door step.

Cary Anthony Stayner (born August 13, 1961) is an American serial killer and the older brother of kidnapping victim Steven Stayner. Stayner was convicted of the murders of four women between February and July 1999: 42-year-old Carole Sund, her teenage daughter Juli Sund, their teenage traveling companion Silvina Pelosso, and Yosemite Institute naturalist Joie Ruth Armstrong.

Known as the 'Scorecard Killer', the 'Freeway Killer', and the 'Southern California Strangler', Randy Steven Kraft (born March 19, 1945) is an American serial killer who raped, tortured, and murdered no less than 16 young men between 1972 and 1983, mostly in California.

Lonnie Franklin Jr. was born on 30 August 1952. He grew up in South Central Los Angeles, married and had two children. He worked as a mechanic between 1981 and 1988 for the City of Los Angeles in the sanitation department and briefly for the Los Angeles Police Department. Lonnie was retired at the time of his arrest.
