Neapolitan boatman Andrea and Rosetta get married. Meanwhile, Rosetta's father marries Countess Donna Rosa. Everyone believes she is a widow, until her first husband turns up alive and well, having faked his disappearance to escape his creditors. Things also take an unpleasant turn for the two young lovebirds when Andrea begins to suspect that Rosetta is having an affair with the countess's son.
