This is Greece

In Thessaloniki Michael unfolds the history of northern Greece. A Macedonian princess, the Ottoman Turks, Roman emperors – many have left their mark on this bustling modern city. We then travel to the ancient port city of Kavala, then Ancient Phillipi and Meteora - home of six Orthodox monasteries, and nally Delphi and the ancient sanctuary of Apollo.

From the Corinth canal Michael travels to the proud Byzantine and Venetian fortress of Acrocorinth and Ancient Corinth. Heading through the Peloponnese, Olympia and onto Athens, Michael marvels in the wonderfully textured history of Greece that is contained in the modern capital city.

Off now to the most famous group of islands in the Aegean Sea, where Michael welcomes us on the island of Syros and seven idyllic Islands. The Cycladic islands are a refuge from a fast paced lifestyle offering a traditional island lifestyle, spectacular sunsets, gorgeous beaches and beautiful architecture.

We start the nal episode on the island of Rhodes, the capital of the twelve islands of the Dodecanese region running up the coast of Turkey and the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe. We also visit Leros with its distinctive Italian character; Patmos where the Apostle John was exiled and nally the island of Symi, a hidden gem of the region.

Greece – the home of sun, sand, sea and most recently Mamma Mia! It’s a place to relax drinking ice-cold super strong and super sweet coffee while playing tavli (aka backgammon). It’s a place to indulge the senses in a history that has spanned thousands of years and upon which much of the Mediterranean world has turned.
