DI John Tolin, just returned from compassionate leave after a car crash that killed his wife and disabled his daughter Jodi, is assigned to sort the cause of a massive collision on the local A12 road. As he begins to reconstruct the accident, he acquaints himself with its participants and victims.

The day of the accident reveals more clues as Ann Stallwood joins DI Tolin's interviews, and the fire brigade renders assistance to the victims - one of whom escapes the scene, and another who is more concerned with her property than her injuries.

DI Tolin becomes suspicious when one of the survivors commits suicide a tad conveniently, the reason for Danny's flight is revealed, and Joyce has her own suspicions about her mother's death.

Confessions abound as Tolin confronts the man who destroyed his life and deals with his own bad behavior. Christine learns why her mother was on that road, John exposes a fraud only to find a deeper connection, and Danny hopes to finally flee the country.

DI Tolin closes the case, and several other mysteries are solved as Christine's husband makes a shocking confession, Sidney's name may be cleared, and an amateur video may explain everything.
