A legendary elven warrior and the Commander of the Northern Armies. Far from the wise, ethereal Lady of Lórien she will one day become, this much younger Galadriel is headstrong and relentless – and obsessed with hunting an elusive evil.

When given the choice by higher powers to remain either a human or an elf, Elrond the half-elven chose immortality, whereas his brother Elros chose a mortal life and became the first King of Númenor. Greatness is in Elrond’s veins, but he has not yet totally found his place in the world. He must navigate the path between doing what is right for his kingdom and remaining loyal to those he holds most dear.

Arondir is a Silvan Elf, a branch of woodland elves who never left Middle-earth for Valinor. A soldier who grew up in the now-sunken lands of Beleriand, he has spent nearly a century keeping vigil over the men & women of the Southlands, whose ancestors sided with evil long ago. Now, the elves’ Age-long watch has nearly ended, but Arondir has grown fond of his charges – especially the healer-woman, Bronwyn.

Celebrimbor is a visionary artisan and Elf-lord of Eregion who has a plan to undertake a great work that will transform Middle-earth into a place whose beauty can rival even the grace of Valinor itself.

High King Gil-galad is a powerful, pragmatic, and wise Elven warrior and king. Ruling from the Elven capital in Lindon, he strives for a bright future for all elves – but harbors a great secret that threatens both his people, and all of Middle-earth.

Her aging father still officially holds the sceptre of the island realm of Númenor, but Queen-Regent Míriel is its acting ruler. Though the kingdom is at the height of its wealth and power, Míriel bears the burden of a terrible secret that looms over her entire people.

As the Captain of a Númenórean guardship, Elendil is most at peace when he is at sea. A widower, his children are now fully grown and starting the next chapters of their lives, sending Elendil’s own life into uncharted waters.

Pharazôn is a respected Númenórean statesman and Queen-Regent Míriel’s right hand, who nevertheless manages to be a man of the people. But underneath his considered exterior, he hides his own grand ambitions for Númenor.

Eärien is Elendil’s talented and ambitious daughter, and Isildur’s sister. Though they all share a strong bond, in a kingdom rife with complex political and social tensions, Eärien finds that her convictions may lie at odds with everyone else in her family.

Isildur is a young man with his future already planned out for him. Soon, he will take his place at his father Elendil’s side in the Sea-Guard of Númenor. He is unsure, though, if this is the future he wants for himself, and wonders if there is some other path he might take.

Kemen is an arrogant but charming young Númenórean man who is eager to win his father Pharazôn’s approval – perhaps by going too far to prove his allegiance to his father’s ideals.

Bronwyn is a single mother and a healer from the Southlands, with a mind and curiosity thoroughly unappreciated by those around her. Only one sees her for who she really is – the elf-soldier Arondir. But he is loathed by all of Bronwyn’s townsfolk, making any relationship between them forbidden.

Halbrand is a “Low Man” of the Southlands, a roguish castaway on the run from his past – and possibly, from his destiny.

Bronwyn’s only son, who has grown up under the watchful eye of elves who cannot see past his people’s ancestral legacy of evil. As he struggles with the questions in his life and seeks to prove himself, he finds himself tempted by a dark discovery.

Nori is a Harfoot, a wandering, ancestral community of halflings who will one day develop into Hobbits. A dreamer to the bone, Nori yearns for adventure outside the small bounds of the halflings’ perilous world.

Poppy is an orphan who has suffered a great loss and had to grow up fast. Poppy is Nori’s curious and loyal best friend who will stick with her through thick and thin – and all the mischief in between.

Largo is Nori’s big-hearted father, a wheelmaker, who indulges his daughter’s daydreams perhaps more than he should.

Nori’s caring stepmother, dedicated to the survival of her family, and to keeping Nori’s feet on the ground. She once had much the same adventurous spirit her daughter has, and learned the hard way that the dreams of youth must one day be replaced by the needs of reality.

Sadoc is the Harfoots’ Trailfinder, a wise leader who guides his community to safety on their annual migrations. He carries the wisdom of generations and is tasked with holding the secrets hidden in the stars.

Prince Durin IV is as dwarven and taciturn in public as one might expect of a dwarf of his stature – but away from strangers’ eyes, he is warm, thoughtful, and boisterous. As heir to the throne of Khazad-dûm, he looks ahead to a time when he can make his mark on the world.

Prince Durin’s wife and future queen, a warm and loving dwarf with a special ability to sing to the mountain to locate where certain ores reside, and where it's safe to dig. She will do anything for the future of her people – which sometimes means pushing her husband to do what they both know is right.

Dwarves

The Second Age began after the downfall of Morgoth, the original Dark Lord. The early part of the Second Age is a time of relative peace, allowing kingdoms of elves, dwarves, and men to grow and flourish as the wars of the First Age become a distant memory.

The Second Age

The First Age was a conflict-laden time in the history of Middle-earth, during which its people endured centuries of warfare. At the end of the age, the great enemy, Morgoth, was finally overthrown, but Middle-earth was left forever changed, with much of its lands drowned and broken.

The First Age

Where the lands of Middle-earth end, their western shores give way to the Sundering Seas. Far across their waters lie the Undying Lands – also known as Valinor, the Far West, the final home of the High Elves, where they live out their immortal lives in blissful peace alongside the Valar, the god-like Guardians of the World.

Known as Telperion and Laurelin, the Two Trees of Valinor emit shining light to illuminate the Undying Lands in the First Age. The Trees were destroyed by Morgoth, who then fled to Middle-earth with the Silmarils, jewels that had been infused with the trees’ radiance.

The Great Foe of all good things in Middle-earth. Morgoth is the first Dark Power to plague the world in the First Age, causing devastation and creating many twisted and monstrous creatures. Though ultimately defeated, his influence of evil lives on into the Second Age and beyond.

One of Morgoth’s top lieutenants, Sauron was a key perpetrator of the boundless suffering and death caused by the wars of the First Age. After his master was overthrown, Sauron disappeared. His fate remains unknown, but some believe he will still return – and there are those who even yearn for it.

The angelic and powerful Guardians of the World, god-like beings who watch over Middle-earth and Valinor. At the end of the First Age, they graced the men who fought alongside the elves against Morgoth with a divine gift: the island kingdom of Númenor.

The Silmarils are three jewels wrought in the First Age by the greatest elven craftsman, Fëanor. Works of unparalleled beauty, these jewels are filled with the radiant light of the Two Trees of Valinor. But they were stolen by Morgoth, who coveted them for their beauty. After his defeat, two of the Silmarils were lost, and the third was set in the sky as a star.

An enigmatic figure of unknown origins who struggles to remember his own identity. He wields mysterious powers that may prove dangerous to those around him.

The Stranger

Adar is the name Second-Age orcs use for their leader. It is also an Elvish word meaning “Father” – though why the orcs call him this remains unknown to outsiders… along with the enigmatic figure’s origins and motivations.

Resonating is the sacred process by which Dwarven women “sing” to the mountain, in order to determine where to dig — and where not to…

The Firstborn of all peoples, all elves are immortal and do not age as humans do, though in times of war they may still be killed. Many of the High Elves, the elves who lived in Valinor in the First Age, long to return to the home they left behind, but feel it is their duty to remain in Middle-earth to protect its realms and peoples.

For their suffering in the wars of the First Age, these human allies of the elves were rewarded with an island, set apart from Middle-earth, where they built the great kingdom of Númenor. The men and women of Númenor were granted a longer lifespan than other humans, and were enriched with knowledge and many gifts by the elves – but it has been centuries since the elves were last welcomed on their shores.

In the First Age, the ancestors of these humans fought alongside the Great Foe, Morgoth. Now, a regiment of Silvan elf soldiers, ever vigilant for evil’s resurgence, keep close watch over the men and women who have made The Southlands their home — though their very presence may stoke the same bitterness that led many Southlanders to side with the enemy in the first place…

The Harfoots are a nomadic group of halflings, small people with tough, leathery feet and hair on their toes. They lead a migratory existence in The Wilderlands, where they live off the land, sticking together as a tight-knit community – and keeping themselves hidden from “Big Folk” outsiders.

A tough and ancient people, dwarves stand taller than halflings but much shorter than Men or Elves. They are secretive in their ways and guard even their language from outsiders, but are well-known as lovers of stone, gems, and things shaped under the hands of craftsmen. After the First Age, many dwarves moved to Khazad-dûm – a grand subterranean kingdom built into the rocky depths of the Misty Mountains.

Malevolent beings of shadow and flame from the Elder Days… some say that Balrogs still hide in the deep parts of Middle-earth…

This scavenger can be found in the icy wastes of the Forodwaith, a cold-weather cousin to the Hill- and Cave-Trolls found elsewhere in Middle-earth. A fearsome foe, Snow-Trolls are best not encountered alone or unawares.

Ents are tree-herders, shepherds of the forest and in appearance, tall creatures similar to trees themselves. Ents are immortal, highly intelligent, and -- when provoked – fierce protectors of their charges against fire and axe.

Once this blade belonged to Finrod, Galadriel’s brother, who was slain in the Elder Days. Now it is a reminder of the vow Galadriel made to eradicate the evil that took his life, and the lives of so many others dear to her.

The Southlands is replete with artifacts attesting to its former status as a domain of evil. This one seems at first to be merely a broken sword-hilt found hidden in a barn…. But it holds a dangerous allure for Theo, and a sinister connection to the sigil Galadriel found in the Forodwaith.

This necklace bears a simple heraldry, though Halbrand will not say what it signifies. It looks almost regal in nature, but Halbrand insists that his people have no king…

Stronger than steel, with a shimmer as though lit from within, this newly discovered ore is rumored to only be found in the depths of Khazad-dûm where it is perilous to mine. But it is believed to contain unique properties that could make it a vital resource for the Elves.
