About Updating Your Device Firmware

Learn about updating your device firmware, to help resolve issues with the Prime Video app or Prime Video playback.

If you're having trouble watching Prime Video on your TV or game console, you may need to update your device firmware.

Firmware is dynamic software built into most TVs and streaming media devices. Firmware can be modified to enhance the performance of your device, or to adjust for changing video features and technical issues.

Updating your firmware can also help resolve issues with Prime Video, and other applications on your device.

Tip: To watch Prime Video titles available in UHD, you may need to upgrade the firmware for your compatible Ultra HD TV to the latest version. You'll know you have the latest version if you see an "Ultra HD" option on the Home screen in the Prime Video app. For more information, go to Prime Video Quality & Formats (SD, HD, UHD, HDR).

Device manufacturers regularly release firmware updates you can download to your device over an active Internet connection. Some updates are required, and some are optional—you'll typically see an on-screen notification when a new update is available or needed for your device.

Most devices also feature manual steps for firmware updates in the "Settings" menu. The user manual for your device generally includes information about accessing and managing firmware settings.

Please note, only Samsung TVs released in 2012 with firmware that starts with "AKUC" or "DEUC" support Prime Video. To identify your firmware version, exit the Smart Hub, then go to Menu> Support > About this TV/contact Samsung.

If you live in one of these countries, then Samsung TVs released in 2012 will no longer support Prime Video: Afghanistan, Angola, Anguilla, Antigua and Barbuda, Argentina, Bahamas, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Barbados, Belize, Benin, Bermuda, Bolivia, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, Cameroon, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Congo, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Republic of Cote d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Ecuador, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Fiji, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Grenada, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kenya, Kuwait, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Lebanon, Lesotho, Liberia, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Macao, Madagascar, Malawi, Malaysia, Mali, Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Myanmar, Namibia, Nepal, Niger, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Palestinian Territory, Panama, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay, Peru, Philippines, Qatar, Republic of South Sudan, Rwanda, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Martin, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Samoa, Sao Tome and Principe, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Suriname, Swaziland, Taiwan, Tanzania, Thailand, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos Islands, Tuvalu, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, Uruguay, Venezuela, Vietnam, British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, Yemen, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
