Ajay Friese is an American/Canadian actor, releasing music under the name Bluejay Friese. He stars as singer-songwriter Randall Potts in the MGM+ comedy American Classic (2026), alongside Kevin Kline and Laura Linney. He first received recognition as series regular Vijay Dhar on the hit Netflix sci-fi drama Lost in Space (2018), where he also played guitar and sang. Friese has also recurred on a number of other Netflix Original Series, including Riverdale (2017) and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (2016), alongside Elijah Wood. In film, he starred in the critically acclaimed Riot Girls (2019) (from the executive producer of Insidious (2010)), and as Deshad in the Apple+ film The Beanie Bubble (2023), produced by Ron Howard and starring Elizabeth Banks and Zach Galifianakis. As a musician (under the name Bluejay Friese), he is a 3-time National CBC Searchlight finalist, releasing his debut full-length album "Postcards" in March, 2026. The folk-country record is described as a collection of wistful, travel-worn songs, with featured tracks including "Sally & Jack" and "Red Autumn". Friese's acting career began in live theatre, with more than a dozen credits including Oliver Twist in Oliver! and Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream. While thrilled to have acted with several professional theatre and opera companies, his role as The Phantom in his high school's production of Phantom of The Opera is a personal favourite. Ajay is from an island on Canada's west coast. He now lives in Arizona, where he recently completed a Bachelor of Arts and Science specialising in histories of capitalism, Western colonisation, and the global system of power imbalance.
