Ben Hopkins is a British screenwriter, film director, and novelist whose work spans feature films, short films, documentaries, and literature. He studied at Oxford before continuing his education at the Royal College of Art. After living in London and Istanbul, he settled in Berlin, developing an international career marked by projects produced across different countries and languages. Working predominantly as a screenwriter, he has written films in a wide range of genres for both his own productions and for other directors. His directorial credits include Simon Magus (1999), which was selected for competition at the Berlin International Film Festival, and The Market: A Tale of Trade (2008) an award-winning film recognized at festivals including Locarno, Ghent, and Antalya. Other notable works include Lost in Karastan (2014), co-written with Paweł Pawlikowski, and Inside (2023), starring Willem Dafoe. In addition to filmmaking, Hopkins is an accomplished novelist whose book "Cathedral" received critical praise for its ambition, imagination, and literary depth. Fluent in English, German, Italian, Turkish, and French, he has built a career that reflects both a broad cultural outlook and a strong commitment to storytelling across multiple forms.
