Brian Russell is a US-born Indigenous actor from Flagstaff, Arizona, and a registered member of the Navajo Nation. His father, Dana Russell, has long worked in Native community outreach, while his mother, Caroline, is a dedicated educator. The second of four brothers, Brian grew up on the Navajo reservation, where a deep bond with Native storytelling shaped his upbringing. Immersed in tales of adventure, sacrifice, grief, and perseverance, he also developed the rare gift of speaking with confidence, authority, and heart-skills that ultimately guided him toward a career in acting. Brian studied Business with a minor in Theatre at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, where his passion for performance truly emerged. His first feature film opportunity came with Rez Ball (Netflix, 2024), he then appeared in George: Rise of a Revolutionary (FOX Nation, 2024), portraying Tanacharison, leader of the Iroquois Nation, whose actions alongside George Washington helped ignite the French and Indian War. Influenced by trailblazing Native actors, Brian cites Adam Beach's poignant performance in Smoke Signals (1998), Wes Studi's commanding presence in Dances with Wolves (1990), and Gary Farmer's heartfelt humor in Dead Man (1995) as sources of inspiration. Brian can next be seen in Sue Thunder, Johnny Lightning (2026), Calogero Carucci's third feature film, which explores the crisis of missing Indigenous women amid corruption and greed. He also stars in Bountiful (2025), directed by Paul Winters, taking on the role of Arrow-the loyal Native ranch hand who seeks vengeance for his family's murder while protecting a frontier homestead. In addition to film, Brian has worked across television and commercial projects, steadily building a body of work defined by authenticity, strength, and storytelling rooted in his heritage.
