Byron Werner

Byron Werner, a Los Angeles-based Director of Photography, has built an impressive career spanning more than 25 years in the film industry. His extensive portfolio features an array of projects, including 30 feature films, 50 short films, 100 music videos, and over 100 commercials. Byron's notable works include his acclaimed cinematography in the Vietnam war drama The Last Full Measure, starring Samuel L. Jackson, William Hurt, Sebastian Stan, and other prominent actors. His work on Bound of Vengeance premiered at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival, while his 2023 feature film Spinning Gold and 2025 feature Juliet and Romeo were released in theaters nationwide. Currently, Byron is immersed in a few exciting projects that are in post production including, the Ukrainian Sean Penn starring film War in the Eyes of Animals, the coming-of-age drama So Much for Love, and the drama The Revisionist starring Dustin Hoffman. In recognition of his artistic contributions, Byron was invited in 2025 to join the Chiaroscuro Collective (CCS), a cultural association of cinematographers dedicated to artistic excellence, creative collaboration, and the advancement of Italian and international cinematography. Beyond feature films, Byron has showcased his versatility in shooting over 200 short films and commercials for leading brands such as Target, Adidas, Microsoft, and HomeAdvisor. His music video work has captured the vision of top artists, including Coldplay, Shakira, The Foo Fighters, Bruno Mars, The 1975, ELO, Pharrell, and The Killers, among others. Byron's Coldplay music video Orphans won Best Rock Video at the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. After graduating Serra High School in San Mateo, Byron began his career in the San Francisco Bay Area at Sega Studios, working on live-action video games. While earning his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film and Television from Chapman University, he shot his first feature film, launching his journey as a Director of Photography. Bypassing the traditional career ladder, he never moved up through the ranks; rather, he shot anything and everything he could as a DP, using experience to further his education. When not on set, Byron dedicates his time to his wife, two young daughters, and their shared passion for adventure. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the family embarked on a cross-country road trip, living in Pennsylvania for most of 2020. In 2022, they spent a transformative year in Rome, Italy, immersing themselves in European culture and traveling across the continent. Byron Werner continues to bring his unique vision and expertise to every project, capturing compelling stories with depth and artistry.
