Edward Gelhaus is a Los Angeles-based character actor whose work spans from network television to classical stage performance. He has appeared in shows such as American Horror Story, NCIS, and Quantum Leap, and is known for grounded, psychologically restrained performances. Gelhaus has built a steady career playing morally complex supporting roles. Originally from Owen, Wisconsin, Gelhaus trained internationally, studying acting at The Gaiety School of Acting, Ireland’s premier drama school, and with faculty affiliated with Rose Bruford College in London. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, Music, and Dance from Saint Mary’s University, graduating as a member of the National Theatre Honor Society. One of only three recipients in the United States to receive the Jerry Herman Legacy Award, Gelhaus completed two Equity tours in West Side Story and Grease before joining Royal Caribbean International as a principal vocalist, performing worldwide aboard the largest ship ever built at the time. He later spent three years in Las Vegas, originating and performing leading roles in multiple productions on and off the Strip. A highly movement-based performer, Gelhaus has also trained and worked with coaches affiliated with Cirque du Soleil, further informing his physical and psychological approach to character work. Professionally military and tactically trained, combined with hand-to-hand combat and stunt training, Gelhaus frequently performs his own stunts-joking that the number lands at a precise 94.5%. In addition to performing, Gelhaus is a private acting coach at his studio, House of Haus Studios, in North Hollywood, where he works with actors across stage, film, and television.
