Director, Producer, Writer
Johnnard Harper is a Houston-born filmmaker out of the city’s raw and unfiltered Third Ward-a Director, Writer, Producer, and Actor who doesn’t wait for permission to create. He builds stories that hit fast, feel real, and leave a mark. Inspired by the high-tension worlds of Deon Taylor, James Wan, Jason Blum, Jeff Howard, and Mike Flanagan, Harper leans into character-driven horror with an edge-grounded, diverse, and unapologetically modern. His films don’t just scare you-they pull you into uncomfortable truths and make you sit there. His talent showed early. While in college, Professor Edward Muth recognized something different-raw ability, instinct, presence. That spark was pushed further by actor Cedric Landers and director Sergio Leroy, who challenged him to stop thinking about the industry... and step into it. Since 2018, Harper has been building-project after project-learning the game from the inside while carving out his own lane. His latest horror feature is already making noise on the festival circuit, landing official selections and earning nominations for Best Scare and Best Actress-proof that his work connects where it matters: with audiences. He recently wrapped the short film Don’t Text Back, a concept he’s now expanding into a feature designed to hit the commercial horror market head-on. Up next, he’s developing another horror project alongside his mentor, Jeff Howard-continuing to level up with every move. Johnnard Harper isn’t chasing opportunities-he’s creating them. His mindset is simple, aggressive, and non-negotiable: Make Movies. Not Excuses.
