Kenneth Perkins is a writer, director, editor and cinematographer based in Aiken, South Carolina, originally from Augusta, Georgia. He began writing screenplays while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps at 19 years old. After returning to civilian life, Perkins studied Spanish Education at Augusta State University where he now teaches high school Spanish. Since 2018, he has written and directed more than a dozen short films that have collectively earned over 80 film festival selections worldwide, including 30 wins and 28 nominations. Short works such as The Fallen Elves, Hero, Something Very Odd, Indeed, Cherry, LUX, and Etch have garnered awards across horror, thriller, and drama categories, showcasing his versatility across genres. His screenwriting has also earned recognition on The Black List's Georgia List and brought home honors from 13Horror.com and the Top Script Awards. Kenneth's creative voice blends genre storytelling with strong emotional undercurrents; his films are often dark, surreal, and deeply character-driven. He is known for a scrappy, independent approach, leveraging modern technology and small crews to achieve high production value on an indie budget. Velvicide, his debut feature film, is a harrowing horror-thriller that interweaves the life of a suicide hotline operator with that of a recently kidnapped trauma survivor in a dark tale of botched suicide and unconventional redemption. The film stars J.D. Starnes, Jon Devlin, and Gea Rose Henry. Grounded yet passionate in his craft, Kenneth Perkins continues to push creative boundaries and is actively seeking new collaborators, representation, and projects to bring new stories to life.
