Patricia Rozema is an award-winning writer director. Her ground-breaking feature film "Mouthpiece" was the TIFF Special Presentations Opening Night Film, the LA Times calling it "a truly revolutionary piece of filmmaking." Rozema's debut feature "I've Heard the Mermaids Singing" premiered at the Director's Fortnight in Cannes, opened TIFF and was released in 40 countries. Her third feature "When Night is Falling" won multiple festival awards and was voted audience favorite at dozens, including Berlin, London, Torino, and nominated for the Golden Bear in Berlin. Also winning first prize at the London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. The LA Times calling it a "sweet, tender movie that handled intimacy with immense grace." Rozema wrote and directed "Mansfield Park" with an extraordinary cast including Frances O'Connor and Harold Pinter. Lindsay Duncan. In 2016 Rozema's apocalyptic thriller "Into the Forest" (A24) with Elliot Page, Evan Rachel Wood and Max Minghella won many plaudits. "A strong, smart and moving end-of-the-world drama." RogerEbert.com. Rozema co-wrote HBO’s Golden Globe-winning "Grey Gardens" (Drew Barrymore, Jessica Lange), winning PEN Screenwriter's award and 17 Emmy nominations. She also won an Emmy and received a Grammy nomination for her Yo-Yo Ma/Bach film "Six Gestures." For TV Rozema has directed episodes of the Golden Globe-winning "Mozart in the Jungle" ( Amazon ), and "Anne with an E" (Netflix/CBC). She also directed "Happy Days" part of the "Beckett on Film" series along with Anthony Minghella, Neil Jordon & Atom Egoyan. She is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, DGA, and WGA. Rozema is an Adjunct Professor at UCLA teaching an MFA in Advanced Narrative Direction course. In May 2026 the British Film Institute hailed her film "I've Heard the Mermaids Singing" as one in a list of 10 Great Films about Artistic Rivalry along with Aronofsky, Jonze, Forman, Fassbinder & Mankiewicz.
