Ricky D'Ambrose (b. September 1, 1987) is an American writer and director. His feature The Cathedral received the Venice Biennale College Cinema Feature Film Grant, had its world premiere at the 78th Venice Film Festival, and its North American premiere at Sundance, where it won the John Cassavetes Award at the Independent Spirit Awards and was nominated for Best Film at the Gotham Awards. His previous films-including the feature Notes on an Appearance and a series of shorts-have screened internationally at the Berlin International Film Festival, Rotterdam, Vienna, Jeonju, the New York Film Festival, and New Directors/New Films. In 2017, Filmmaker Magazine named him one of the 25 New Faces of Independent Film; he has also been cited as one of the decade's best new filmmakers by Richard Brody in The New Yorker. He has served on juries at the Venice International Film Festival and the Gotham Awards, and has written about cinema for The Nation, Filmmaker, n+1, MUBI, and Film Quarterly.
