In the series premiere, Alfred Pennyworth (JACK BANNON) meets Thomas Wayne (BEN ALDRIDGE) and falls in love with Esme (EMMA CORRIN).

After surviving the plot against the government, Alfred and Esme decide to get engaged. Meanwhile, Lord Harwood is tortured, and Bet Sykes is sentenced to be executed.

Alfred accepts an assignment from American heiress Martha Kane (Emma Paetz) to transport a scientist out of the country.

Thomas meets Martha for the first time and assigns her and Alfred a dangerous mission – to uncover the new leader of the Raven Society. Later, tragedy strikes.
