Profoundly resentful against her husband, Lila finds new ways to carry on pairing off with Elena.

The exhibition of a photo of Lila on her wedding day in the center of town becomes the object of more arguments between Lila and Stefano.

Lila and Elena go together to Ms. Galiani’s party only to realize how they now belong to two ever more distant worlds.

Elena agrees to take a beach holiday with Lila, provided they go to Ischia. She knows Nino Sarratore will also be on the island.

Pinuccia goes back to Rino and the group of five becomes four. There’s a rift between Lila and Elena, one that goes by the name of Nino.

After Ischia, Elena plunges headfirst into studying for her finals, whilst Lila must tackle problems of an entirely different nature.

University life in Pisa has deeply changed Elena. Lila on the other hand is now totally absorbed by her role of mother.

Close to graduating, Elena gives birth to her first novel and finds Lila in her new life as a food factory worker.
