Still haunted by the collapse of a previous murder case he worked on DI Alec Hardy (Tennant) is now in charge, much to the chagrin of local officer DS Ellie Miller (Colman). Their investigation sees many townspeople come under suspicion but after many twists and turns, the revelation of the killer's identity had far-reaching consequences, not least for the two detectives.
