In this second heat, 9 artists are challenged to create a portrait of one of 3 celebrities: Actor and rapper Ashley Walters, model David Gandy, and actress, Anne Reid.

In this third heat, 9 artists are challenged to create a portrait of one of 3 celebrities: actor James Purefoy, model Jodie Kidd or professional strongman, Eddie Hall.

In this fourth heat, 9 artists are challenged to create a portrait of one of 3 celebrities: actors Anna Chancellor and Stephen Graham and musician Beverley Knight.

In this fifth heat, 9 artists are challenged to create a portrait of one of 3 celebrities: actors Georgina Campbell and Mark Gatiss and paralympian Baroness, Tanni Gray Thompson.

In this sixth heat, 9 artists are challenged to create a portrait of one of 3 celebrities: musicians Nitin Sawhney and Sophie Ellis Bextor and actor, Adrian Lester.

In this penultimate heat, 9 artists are challenged to create a portrait of one of 3 actors - Angela Griffin, Gina McKee or Jamael Westman.

In this eighth heat, 9 artists are challenged to create a portrait of one of 3 celebrities: actors Jodie Comer and Nick Moran and fashion designer, Daniel Lismore.

Stephen Mangan and Joan Bakewell head to the Round Chapel in Hackney for the semi-final of Portrait Artist of the Year 2019. Known for its impressive acoustics, it's a fitting location for celebrity sitter, internationally renowned Jazz musician Courtney Pine.

Having made it through the semi-final, just three artists remain in the running for Portrait Artist of the Year 2019. Artists have four hours to create their portraits, and the illustrious interior of the National Portrait Gallery provides a fitting backdrop for their final sitter, renowned actor, Laura Linney.

In this final programme, the winner embarks on a 10,000 pound commission to create a portrait of musical legend, Sir Tom Jones. Charged with painting this formidable character, so well-known to audiences world-wide, can our artist get beyond his public persona to get a fresh take on such a familiar face?

In this celebrity special of Portrait Artist of the Year 6 celebrity artists are invited to take up the challenge. Comedians Phil Jupitus, Vic Reeves, Josie Long and Joe Lycett are joined by weatherman, Tomasz Schafernaker and actor, Maureen Lipman.
