While slacking off on his duties, Omaeda falls from a cliff. Recovering from the fall, Omaeda finds a young boy named Ryuzaburo staring at him with admiration and learns that he has unintentionally saved the boy’s life from a Hollow. When asked for his name, Omaeda lies and says he is the captain of Squad 2.

While sparring with Ikkaku and Renji inside Squad 11’s dojo, Ichigo meets Seizo, whose mild-mannered personality seems out of place within the hot-blooded Squad 11. Once a powerful Soul Reaper, Seizo lost most of his spirit energy after taking a hit from a Hollow meant for Ikkaku. Ichigo, having seen Seizo’s unfair treatment within the squad, questions if he is truly content with his current life.

While Ichigo is looking into a possible Hollow incident in the World of the Living, Kon, inside Ichigo’s body, meets a beautiful woman who can see spirits. But the woman was dumped by her boyfriend because of this power and now wishes to die. Kon tries to stop the woman from killing herself when a handsome Hollow appears

Yachiru encounters a Soul Reaper saving a girl from a Hollow, and quickly recognizes him as Masayoshi, her old friend. As the two celebrate their reunion, Yachiru learns that “Mappy” has lost his wife to a Hollow. Since then, Masayoshi has sworn to kill all Hollows for the people of the Rukon District, and for his late wife. But something about Masayoshi’s story does not sit well with Yachiru.

Hitsugaya has taken some time off and comes to Karakura Town to visit Haru, an old lady he met during a previous visit to the World of the Living. Grandma Haru introduces Hitsugaya and Karin to Yosuke, a young spirit who died before being able to experience his first snow. Hitsugaya decides to wait on performing Konso on Yosuke until the boy gets his wish, when Haru’s health suddenly worsens…

Peace has seemingly returned to both the World of the Living and the Soul Society with Aizen’s defeat. But reports of Soul Reapers going missing after entering the Precipice World begin to surface in the Soul Society. Meanwhile in the World of the Living, Kon finds an unconscious girl lying in the street and brings her home, while Ichigo and Rukia discover that they cannot contact Soul Society.

Ichigo is placed under arrest by the Soul Society under suspicion of being responsible for the disappearance of the Soul Reapers in the Precipice World. With Rukia’s help, the two make an escape, when Renji and Ikkaku appear to do battle.

Ichigo and Rukia find stored records on Nozomi at the Department of Research and Development, and realize the World of the Living is in danger. Hurrying to get back, the two regroup with Yoruichi, who proposes to get past the heavily guarded Senkaimon by force. Meanwhile in the World of the Living, Kon and Nozomi find themselves attacked by Kira, Nanao, and a Soul Reaper calling himself Kageroza.

The Thirteen Court Guard Squads who attacked Ichigo and Rukia in the Soul Society are revealed to be imposters known as Reigai, who have switched places with their originals. Thanks to the work of Mayuri, the real captains and lieutenants are rescued from the Precipice World, and they all regroup in the World of the Living to discuss how to deal with this new crisis.

Kon goes out to search for Nozomi and finds her wandering aimlessly. Meanwhile, the Soul Society has assembled a special team, including the Reigai of Ikkaku, Yumichika, and Hisagi, to apprehend Ichigo. The Reigai arrive in the World of the Living where they encounter their originals, and a battle ensues

Rangiku faces the Reigai of Izuru, but the imposter’s Zanpakuto proves to be more powerful then she anticipated. Rukia is also having a tough battle against the Reigai of herself and Nemu, when help arrives from an unexpected person. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, Ukitake pleads for Kyoraku’s release to Central 46.

Chad encounters Renji’s Reigai while searching for Nozomi, and a battle ensues between the two. Meanwhile, Unohana grows suspicious over the events surrounding Kyoraku’s arrest, and begins to conduct her own research. In the process, Unohana learns that Kageroza is the mastermind behind this incident.

The captains of the 13 Court Guard Squads take action to reclaim the Soul Society back from the Reigai. As they successfully reenter the Soul Society, Kenpachi encounters his Reigai, and a fierce battle ensues. Meanwhile, Genryusai battles the Reigai of Kyoraku and Ukitake but notices something odd about their movements.

Moved by Ichigo and his friends’ efforts to protect her, Nozomi decides to stay with the group and begins to use her powers to heal Ichigo. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, Byakuya faces the Reigai of Hitsugaya.

Ichigo leaves for the Soul Society to join the battle, only to be ambushed by Kageroza, who intends to erase Ichigo’s existence. Back in the Soul Society, the wounded captains find themselves facing new Reigais to battle, while Hitsugaya is reunited with Hinamori.

Captains of the 13 Court Guard Squads continue their battle to reclaim the Soul Society. Head Captain Yamamoto takes on the Reigai of Kyoraku and Ukitake, but is gradually overwhelmed by the two. Meanwhile in the World of the Living, Nozomi and the others learn of Ichigo’s disappearance inside the Precipice World.

Captains Hitsugaya and Kenpachi have located Kageroza and proceed to attack him, but Kageroza retaliates by controlling the Precipice World to his advantage. Back in the World of the Living, Nozomi and the others continue their search for the missing Ichigo.

Ichigo, who was swept away by the Cleaner inside the Precipice World, has safely returned to the World of the Living to everyone’s delight. Meanwhile in the Soul Society, the Reigai are revealed to be Mod Souls created by Kageroza.

The Soul Reapers in the World of the Living have lost contact with the captains in the Soul Society. Meanwhile, the revelation of Nozomi being a Mod Soul surprises Ichigo and his friends. Kon is particularly shocked, and is now unsure of how to interact with Nozomi.

Nozomi wishes to join the battle against the Reigai, believing her Zanpakuto may stand a chance against Kageroza’s Zanpakuto. But the Soul Reapers are unable to completely trust Nozomi due to her power not being fully awakened yet. Ichigo and his friends decide to help Nozomi by training her to reach Shikai.

Having regained her Shikai, Nozomi tries to join Ichigo and the others to fight the Reigai captains, but the other Soul Reapers tell her not to interfere. In the midst of the battle, Hisagi and Izuru are brought down by the Reigai of Hitsugaya, who prepares to finish off the two lieutenants.

Head Captain Genryusai Yamamoto steps in to battle against the Reigai. Ichigo and Nozomi join Genryusai, each taking on the Reigai of captains Unohana, Ukitake, and Kyoraku.

Nozomi’s Zanpakuto breaks in the midst of trying to protect Genryusai from Kageroza’s attack. As Ichigo and Kon try to save Nozomi from being taken away, Kageroza reveals a shocking secret between him and Nozomi.

Following his defeat by Kageroza, Ichigo has lost his Soul Reaper powers. Still determined to save Nozomi, Ichigo and his friends gather at Urahara’s shop to come up with a rescue plan.

Inside the Precipice World, Rukia and the others act as decoys to draw away the Reigai’s attention while Ichigo, Urahara, and Kon break into the Seireitei. As they search for Kageroza’s laboratory, Urahara makes an attempt to restore Ichigo’s lost Soul Reaper powers but is discovered by the Reigai of Nemu and Nanao.
