Thomas and Friends

Cranky is unloading his cargo at the docks and is in no mood for a story, which Salty is telling Bill and Ben. When Cranky drops some pipes, he sends them them crashing into the shed which collapses, trapping Salty, Bill and Ben. Cranky has to listen to Salty’s stories all night and is pleased when Harvey finally arrives to clear up the mess the next morning.

Salty loves the sea and is disappointed when he finds his new job is at the quarry. But he is a really useful engine and set to work at once. Much to Bill, Ben and Mavis’ surprise, he handles the troublesome trucks so well that he finishes the job in no time.

Harvey, the new crane engine, is to give a demonstration in order to join the railway. The next day Percy loses control of his trucks and they crash, blocking a road. Harvey is sent to the rescue which ends up being the best demonstration of all. All the other engines were grateful and Harvey happily joined the railway.

When there is a signal box failure Harold the Helicopter is called in to deliver the mail. Percy is upset. But the load is too heavy for Harold and his cargo net gets caught in the trees and he crashes into a haystack. Once the signal box is fixed, Percy races to his rescue.

When Thomas’ coupling rods break, stranding him on the branch line, he meets a dirty old steam lorry called Elizabeth. After Elizabeth fetches some replacement rods and helps Thomas make his delivery on time, The Fat Controller recognises her as an old friend and decides to restore her to her former glory.

In foggy misty valley, the engines have to be careful of rocks falling onto the tracks. The Fat Controller replaces Cyril the fogman with a foghorn. When the foghorn is sounded the next day, it is so loud that rocks fall and block the tracks. Then Thomas crashes and Cyril comes to the rescue, warning Toby before he crashes too.

Jack is excited for his first day at the quarry and eager to impress the team – Alfie and Buster the excavators, Byron the bossy bulldozer, Kelly the crane, Isobella, and dump truck Max. When Jack needs rescuing by Kelly, Miss Jenny is disappointed and Jack is sad because he likes his new friends.

Jack and Alfie are loading Thomas’ trucks at the quarry. Not looking where he is going, Ned rolls over Thomas’ track and breaks the rails. Thomas begins to topple but Jack quickly jumps in and helps get Thomas back onto the track. Jack is a hero and welcomed into the pack.

It’s winter and snowploughs are issued for all the engines. Thomas has a big Christmas tree to deliver but it has snowed heavily and his snowplough breaks. Determined that the villagers will have their tree, he pushes and pushes through the heavy snow and finally makes his delivery.

Donald and Douglas, the Scottish twins, nearly always work together. One day The Fat Controller needs one engine to help Duck with his work. Tired of working with his twin, Donald volunteers but it doesn’t go well and, left behind, Douglas misses his twin. When Donald crashes, Douglas races to the rescue.

When Henry breaks down, The Fat Controller uses Diesel but the steam engines find him rude. Diesel plans to get rid of steam engines once and for all. For once the troublesome trucks defend the Steamies and help to get rid of Diesel instead… for now.

It’s Halloween and Percy is scared after Edward tells spooky ghost stories. Thomas teases him but when Thomas is left alone later he begins to feel scared too. He hears strange noises and, when he accidentally shunts into a hanging chain, he races back to the sheds, where he apologises to Percy for teasing him.

None of the engines like going to Maithwaite because they have to pass a spooky abandoned mine. Percy must collect some shrubs from Maithwaite for ‘The Most Beautiful Station’ competition. Scared, as usual, he gets even more frightened when he sees a chimney and building sink into the ground near the mine...

Being middle engine for Harry and Bert, the yellow diesels, causes problems for Percy and he is turned upside down. James brags that he could do better. The next day, James is middle engine for the diesels and Percy is sent to help him out.

Thomas has a ‘special’ of a hot air balloon. When the balloon starts to drift down towards him, James saves the day, and he lets off some steam, sending it back in the air again.

It’s freezing and Thomas frightens Percy with tales of Jack Frost. Later that night, Percy parks on the sidings and, during the night, his face is covered with frost. James sees Percy and, thinking he is Jack Frost, races back to the sheds. James brags that he met Jack Frost but Percy exposes his charade.

Gordon, the express train, is proud of being the fastest engine who carries only passengers and not freight. When The Fat Controller sends him to haul some trucks, Gordon is unhappy and learns that pride comes before a fall…

Percy is often given the dirtiest work to do. There is a water shortage and the engines are restricted to fewer washdowns. The trucks play a trick on Percy and he gets covered in coal.

Bill and Ben the twins are quarry engines. When Ben’s buffers get damaged, he is sent for new ones but Bill is jealous and wants new buffers too. The trucks tease Bill until he bashes into them and lands in a quarry ditch, breaking his own buffers.

Farmer McColl’s lambs are stuck on a hillside, cut off by snow. He needs the vet to come and tend to them. When Duck can’t get through with his snowplough, Toby remembers his old branchline and takes a dangerous journey to save the baby lambs.

Thomas has a very important passenger and is washed and polished. But his passenger sees a mouse in Clarabel and refuses to ride with him. She decides to go with Percy instead, as he is so sweet and dirty and so Thomas learns that being squeaky clean isn’t everything.

Gordon loves being faster than the other engines. Thomas’ wish to be as fast as Gordon comes true when he has to collect a jet engine from the docks and deliver it to the airfield.

The big engines feel that Edward, the ‘back engine’, is too old and unreliable and should be retired. The Fat Controller hears of this and sends him to work with Stepney. Gordon then finds himself stuck and in need of a ‘back engine’ and Edward is soon back at his normal job.

Duncan ignores the rules after becoming impatient with Rusty, Rheneas and Skarloey and tries to shunt too many trucks up the steep incline - with disastrous results.

Rheneas and Skarloey are told to repair their line, otherwise they will work in the quarry instead. With the help of Rusty and Elizabeth they haul rubbish and pull branches from the line until it looks beautiful. The Fat Controller is so impressed that he re-opens the line.
