The Moodys

Twentysomething Dan Moody returns home to Sydney for Christmas after two years in London. His day goes from bad to worse as his girlfriend dumps him at the airport, he’s roped into helping his brother Sean on a fool’s errand, and he gets food poisoning. But at least he meets the alluring Cora, his arrogant cousin’s new girlfriend.

The holiday gets off to a rousing start when the Moodys attend a candlelight carols concert on Christmas Eve, at which Uncle Terry breaks down over his failed marriage. The next day, Dan makes a faux pas with a homeless woman and ends up inviting her to lunch, while his attempts to talk to Cora are unwittingly aided by Hayden.

Dan and Cora fly back to Sydney together but debate whether they should reveal to his family that they’re dating. They’re not the only ones with secrets, however, as Bridget has split from a now out-of-the-closet Roger, but they’re still pretending to be a couple.

After his job separated him from Cora, Dan comes home to learn she’s back together with Hayden. Meanwhile, Sean has had a baby with Peggy, one of his air-conditioning clients, and has joined the family repairman business-but is running it into the ground.

Dan and his British girlfriend embark on a tense road trip with Hayden and Cora to visit Grandma at her nursing home. Sean’s plans to propose to Peggy are constantly hijacked by those of Uncle Rhys, who’s out on day release from prison.

A Christmas card from Cora inspires Dan to take a romantic leap, but after a series of misunderstandings, realizations, and humiliations, he seems doomed to spend this year’s holiday dealing with heartbreak. But at least Kevin has finally finished the pool.
