Through elaborate, beautifully photographed tableaux vivants of Caravaggio’s brilliant, nearly blasphemous paintings and his flirtations with the underworld, the film retells the life of the celebrated Renaissance painter and the love triangle with his friend Ranuccio, and his low-life partner Lena.
