PC Elliott is at a familiar address, after complaints from neighbours about yet another disturbance. As is frequently the case 44-year-old Shayne is at the heart of the problems. Part loveable rogue, part public nuisance Shayne often finds himself under the influence and on the wrong side of the law.

In Crewe PC Greg Greaves and two other patrols are dispatched after reports of a fight. But arriving at an over-populated flat, filled with eastern European migrant workers who don't speak much English, it's tricky to work out exactly who's been hit by whom.

In Warrington PCs Ross Dryden and Lyndsey Whitehurst are on the lookout for a repeat offender suspected of theft and assault. They spot a familiar figure and a heated arrest results in the recovery of the stolen goods. "You'll find that you go to jobs and the same names are always popping up," says PC Whitehurst.

PC Rachel Parr and PC Hall are called to a hotel in Warrington where a female guest at a wedding has smashed up a room and assaulted her boyfriend after drinking all day. Faced with the prospect of a night in the cells she decides to take off her clothes. It's not the first time she's been arrested after drinking.

Th emergency services encounter other children who are at the other end of the spectrum; some are vulnerable, while others are having to take on responsibilities for parents who are ill or struggling to cope.

Always aware of the potential threat they face, police officers have access to a button on the top of their radios that cuts across all radio communication in case of an emergency. "It's your panic button," says PC Ambrose. "If it's gone belly up and you need assistance urgently then you press your red button and you just hope people get there as soon as possible."

with one call in every seven to Cheshire police relating to the county's road, sadly collisions are not a rare occurrence. It's a stark reality with devastating effects that touch not just the lives of those involved, but also many of the emergency service personnel who attend.

It's often after a relationship has ended that troubles seem to arise. In custody, tears of remorse can be heard through the corridors after a man is arrested for spray-painting abusive words about his ex-girlfriend over the outside walls of her house.

"In a cardiac arrest, the opportunity is there to save someone's life," says emergency medical technician John Almond. "They're never easy, but it's straightforward: the sooner someone gets bouncing on that chest, the greater their chance of survival!"

DC Ben Hilton is called to deal with a case of a woman who has been arrested after stabbing her partner in the leg with a kitchen knife. Crimes of this nature are no longer the rarity they once were, but when the woman is interviewed this case proves to be far more complex than it first appeared. "There's always more to it" says Sergeant Line "Whenever anybody comes in, there's always more to it"
