The Rising of the Shield Hero

As Na+L20:X20ofumi prepares for the next "Wave", mysterious monsters appear and the countdown to the next “Wave” stops. Suddenly, Mirellia informs the Four Cardinal Heroes that the legendary monster, the "Spirit Tortoise", has been resurrected.

Commanders from each country gather in the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom. Naofumi attends the meeting and promises to lend his strength as one of the Four Cardinal Heroes. Just as the army is about to move out and subdue the Spirit Tortoise, a mysterious woman appears before them. Just what is her true identity!?

The Spirit Tortoise awakens and appears on the outskirts of the Spirit Tortoise Kingdom. While Naofumi draws the Spirit Tortoise’s familiars towards himself, Eclair and the others lead the Spirit Tortoise to the mountains. Ost, a familiar of the Spirit Tortoise, also lends her strength and fights bravely.

Despite beheading the Spirit Tortoise, its familiar, Ost, remains standing, meaning the Spirit Tortoise could come back to life at any moment. The coalition army needs to regroup urgently. Naofumi and his few friends take the risk and climb onto the Spirit Tortoise’s back to find its true weakness.

L’Arc, Therese and Glass appear before Naofumi. The three are hastening to find the person who had unlawfully unleashed the Spirit Tortoise’s seal and is manipulating it. As their motives are in line with Naofumi’s, L’Arc suggests teaming up once more…

Fitoria appears along with the Spirit Tortoise’s revival, and combines powers with Naofumi to behead and destroy the Spirit Tortoise’s heart at the same time. They regroup with L’Arc, but are driven into a corner by Kyo's overwhelming strength.

Naofumi wakes up in an unfamiliar prison. Everyone’s level is back to one, and Filo is nowhere to be seen. Naofumi tries to increase his level while looking for a way out. However, he struggles when faced with a monster.

In order to reach Sickle, the kingdom which summoned Kizuna, Naofumi and the others begin peddling while traveling towards the Dragon Hourglass in the capital of Mikakage. Naofumi increases his income by selling rare recovery items. However, they coincidentally hear of a genius sorcerer, and have reservations about him…

Upon their arrival in the kingdom of Sickle, Naofumi’s party is introduced to another Vassal Hero, Ethnobalt. With Naofumi’s blood and Raphtalia’s hair as a medium, he creates a shikigami which is able to identify Raphtalia’s whereabouts.

Raphtalia is imprisoned in the kingdom of Label, along with L’Arc and the others. Despite being cautious towards them, Raphtalia seeks their help to escape. However, Glass’ life force has deteriorated in the Reduction Prison. Raphtalia seems to have a plan to escape…

Naofumi and the others are happy to reunite with Raphtalia. Glass and the others also rejoice in their reunion with Kizuna, but Kizuna gives them an earful for invading another world. They swear against fighting Naofumi and the others, and decide to search for alternative ways to save each other’s worlds. Meanwhile, Kyo’s evil clutches draw near.

A “Wave” breaks before the countdown is up. Kizuna and the others have been teleported to the “Wave”, while Naofumi and the others head to Kyo’s laboratory on Ethnobalt’s ship. There, they witness Kyo’s malicious acts unfold as he ruthlessly turns everyone into his pawns.

Naofumi and the others depart Lurolona Village as they head to a new destination. During their journey, Raphtalia and Rishia recall the time they spent trying on clothes with Kizuna in the capital of Mikakage. Kizuna forces various outfits on Raphtalia, and Rishia somehow gets roped in too…?!
