Dicing with Death

Borneo is home to one of the last remaining primary forests in South East Asia. For timber harvesters, this is a goldmine. Lumberjacks and drivers come from all over Indonesia in search of the best salaries in the country. This is a dangerous job that is done in extreme conditions.

It's a no-man's land of 2200km in height in the middle of the jungle, dominated by the Andes Mountains. The ever-uncontrollable border between Columbia and Venezuela. It's a paradise for cartels, except here, it's not the traffic of cocaine, but of petrol.

In the far north of Benin, in the heart of an arid jungle, the Baribas people make their home. Historically warriors, they have now become farmers and gain their wealth principally from the cotton market.

Situated in the extreme north-west of Afghanistan, the Wakhan corridor is bordered by the Hindou Kouch mountains and peaks at almost 5000 metres high. The only road that cuts through the corridor is almost inaccessible, crossing the mountainside, often buried by metres of snow.

Madagascar situated off the east coast of Africa in the Indian Ocean is the 4th largest island in the world. Travelling across the island is an arduous task. The roads are dangerous dirt tracks interspersed with fast flowing rivers that can only be crossed using bridges that could collapse at any moment.

In Senegal, every year during the rainy season, entire regions are covered in water. We follow the struggle of seasoned exiles along roads that have now become sludge tracks as a result of the rain.
