Ehrenberg is back in Kiel and has a chance encounter with Greta and her daughter Fanny. He attends an official event with Wilhelm, Hannie and Lessing which is politically important to Lessing. The young offenders Pauli, Harri and Berndt pass the U-Boat training with flying colors while Ehrenberg works up the new U-Boat with young CO Buchner. Forster arrives in Lisbon for a new secret mission.

Forster is informed about his mission by Weiss and meets the head of police Da Costa at the morgue when he examines the dead Gestapo man. It is the first dive for the young crew of U-949 and nervous CO Buchner struggles to gain their respect. In Kiel, Wilhelm thanks Lessing for organizing U-612’s logbook. Will he find out that the logbook was tempered with?

After an informative evening at the Casino and an amorous night with Bettina, Forster pushes his investigation forward receiving unexpected help from Inês. In the Baltic, Ehrenberg and U-949 get stuck on a tethered mine. In the aftermath, Ehrenberg is summoned by Lessing. Who will take the fall?

Ehrenberg saves Pauli and Harri’s skin during the tribunal. In the meanwhile, the tensions between Hannie and Lessing run high and he humiliates his wife in front of everyone. In Lisbon, Forster discovers a truth about Dr. Beck. Is he really on the right track?

Forster hands over Dr. Beck, but doubts are rising inside of him. He meets his alibi Inês and spends the night with her. In Kiel, Ehrenberg says goodbye to Greta and U-949 sails out. During their first attack on a convoy, a torpedo gets stuck and U-949 is hunted by HMS Perseverance. Will they survive?

On board U-949, Pauli manages to get rid of the stuck torpedo while HMS Perseverance is still attacking them. Thanks to Ehrenberg, they succeed in eloping and get new orders. The suspicious Forster pursues Gruber and witnesses him meeting Gardiner and receiving a package from him.

U-949 meets a Japanese I-Boat and load very heavy cargo -- gold! Forster tells Gardiner and Hoffmann about the conspiracy and the wolfram deal.

Forster and Hoffman go to Inês for help and try to come up with a plan while Wilhelm arrives in Lisbon. U-949 heads toward its destination: Portugal. As they have little time to get there, they must sail surfaced. A dangerous endeavor especially when HMS Perseverance is on the hunt!

Hoffmann follows Weiss to a warehouse and retrieves some valuable info. He discovers Wilhelm’s visit and wants to secretly meet him as Forster intervenes. Inês contacts him instead. U-949 is under heavy attack from HMS Perseverance. CO Buchner has an idea how to fight the destroyer.

U-949 arrives at its destination in Portugal and unloads the gold. Da Costa is bribed with some gold bars and supports Hoffmann and Forster in their endeavor to meet Wilhelm. Helped by the blackmailed Gruber, Hoffmann can return to Germany as a hero. Ehrenberg, on board U-949, returns to Kiel.
