Wealthy local Roddy MacLean asks Hamish to be the best man at his wedding. A doubtful Hamish investigates if Roddy"s bride to be is truly in love with him. Anne Patterson joins the police force and Hamish is forced to train her.

Hamish travels to the island of Laggas Laggas where he investigates a divisive mystery that has puzzled the island for over two decades.

Isobel returns from Glasgow followed by a gang of outlaws. Hamish cannot take any action until the gang commits a crime.

It is time for the annual singing contest between Lochdubh"s Stag Bar and Dunbracken Arms. The villagers turn to Young Frankie"s beautiful voice to help them win but Frankie brings trouble with him that Hamish must resolve.

Hamish sets out to find the arsonist who burned down part of the local school. Esme is enraged that the town does not plan to rebuild the school, but is more stunned to find out her own boyfriend might be involved with the crime.

Hamish believes there may be some foul play at the annual street hockey match against Dunbracken. Lachie Jr. has a falling out with his father that gets in the way of the game.

John"s brother, Kenneth, breaks out of jail in search of the Stone of Destiny with hypnotist Ava. Hamish must find it before he does.

Kenneth and Ava run away with the Stone of Destiny. Hamish and Isobel"s relationship progresses and John disappears, possibly for good.
