Grantchester

It’s 1956 and Sidney Chambers is yearning for some excitement. His best friend, DI Geordie Keating, is starting to worry that this daredevil attitude is verging on a death wish. Sidney is swept up in the formative civil rights movement when US pastor Reverend Todd and his daughter Violet arrive in Cambridge – and a murder sees racial tensions spike.

With Violet gone, Sidney loses himself in drink. After a heavy whiskey session leaves him without his jacket, and little memory of the night before, Sidney discovers to his horror that he was the last person to see a young woman alive. Feeling more lost than ever, Sidney struggles to remember her final words, while Geordie investigates a decaying slum that’s connected to a deadly web of vice.

Geordie’s anxieties about the future are brought to the surface when a professor dies at a cutting-edge computer laboratory, and he turns to Leonard for assistance with the case. As Geordie and Leonard start to discover the surprisingly messy love lives of the computer laboratory team, Cathy is brutally tricked, Will returns to Grantchester, and Mrs. C makes a shocking discovery.

Will is preparing to be installed as the new vicar of Grantchester and Mrs. C. is anxious about his relaxed attitude. But that’s just Will’s nature--as he tells the Archdeacon, he’s never been more sure of anything. When a child from an isolated farming family is accused of murder, Will is the only one able to reach him--but it brings out unexpected sides of the young vicar, which shocks Geordie.

An unexpected phone call summons Will back home, and he asks Geordie for his help. It’s a chance for Geordie to discover where Will really comes from, and it’s not what he expected, taking him into a very unfamiliar--and unfriendly--world. One vicious beating leads to a grisly murder at his sprawling ancestral home, and life will never be the same for Will again.

While Will struggles with a decision that will determine his future, the violent death of a Teddy Boy becomes conclusive proof to Geordie that the country’s gone to the dogs. Away from her life at the vicarage, Mrs. C. is feeling lost, while Cathy is left shaken by another encounter with Mr. Hobbs. And Leonard is adrift, hiding at Daniel’s and reeling from his encounter with Will.
