Dicing with Death

In Peru, we meet David, who is is leaving for the Amazon to gather wood to make a living for his family. Pollution and deforestation are causing the forest's demise, but inhabitants like David are forced to participate in its massacre in order to survive. At the end of his route, we meet the Masho Piro, the last indigenous people isolated from the rest of the world, threatened with extinction.

We are in the Quan Hoa mountains in the Northwest of Vietnam. This province possesses an inexhaustible treasure: bamboo. This is transported on makeshift rafts, sent down the tumultuous river Luong. This region is also the only one where the roads are not asphalt. Even 4x4s and trucks can't handle it... The only engine capable of manoeuvring the roads is Van Ly's "Tuk Tuk".

From the borders of the Andes Mountains to the jungle in south Buenos Aires, it's make it or break it in extreme Argentina. We meet lorry drivers in high altitude, countryside doctors who walk for hours, covering more than 5km, to visit patients, and Pablo the farmer, who crosses the rainy-season lagoons on his Mad Max lorry, half bus half tractor, just to deliver milk to his farm.

In Katanga more than 2000 people, three times the train's capacity, are squeezing in the carriages of the Swallow. Conditions are precarious on the train, which crosses the whole country in more than a week, stopping in several villages. But the journey isn't easy. The rails are poorly maintained, accidents frequent and the journey is risky.
