The surgery in Aidensfield is broken into one night and Dr Ferrenby gets assaulted. Pills that were stolen in the raid are being passed off as other drugs and sold around the area. Meanwhile, Kate discovers a patient's miscarriages have been caused by foreign drugs she took for morning sickness.

Convict Stevie Walsh is released from prison and is on a train back to Aidensfield to see his wife and to take care of some unfinished business. The train heading for Aidensfield then crashes when the signals fail. Nick cannot get police assistance, so it's up to him alone to organise a rescue mission with the villagers.

Phil goes to meet a girl while he should be on his beat - at the same time a pawn broker in Ashfordly is broken into. After investigation, evidence is found to implicate Phil in the crime, but Nick is sure that someone is trying to frame him.

A German American called Victor Kellerman arrives in the village with the intention of killing a local landowner. He seeks revenge for events surrounding himself and the local during the Second World War.

A local woman is getting prepared for her wedding, but someone it seems is trying to sabotage the event. An old boyfriend becomes a suspect when he appears on the scene. Greengrass is in trouble again, this time due to supplying stolen seafood to the wedding and poisoning a guest!

Greengrass complains to Nick that he has been shot, while on a public right of way, by a local landowner. Meanwhile, Kate is approached by Jennifer, who is worried about her recently-widowed mother, Jane. Jennifer doubts whether her mother should live alone because she has started to talk to her dead husband.

Nick discovers a partially opened grave when he patrols the village at night. Meanwhile Kate is contacted by Mrs Fletcher, who's worried about her daughter's recent strange behaviour, which she fears may be connected to some pills she found.

David runs into the pub while Nick and Kate are in there. It is revealed that his mother, Florence has been run over by a landrover. Florence tells David he must not tell anyone about the car.

Charlie Dameron, an American, rides his bike into Aidensfield when he swerves to avoid a sheep on the road, smashing a fence. Kate patches up Dameron's injuries. Meanwhile Nick receives a phonecall from a local farmer, Tom Lawrence,who is complaining about his broken fence.

Sub-divisional Inspector Crossley is expected to pay a surprise visit at any minute, and Ventress has got Blaketon and Bellamy spring-cleaning the Duty-room. Crossley the inspector takes a shine to Kate and extends Nick's area to cover the Whitby area.Gina receives an offer to sing at a club in Whitby.
