An unusual circus comes to town, fronted by the wild gypsy showman Papa Lazarou.

Royston Vasey receives a visit from the flamboyant Herr Lipp and his students, who are on an exchange visit from Duisberg. At the Windermere B&B, proprietors Sunny and Alvin close their guest house for the night while they hold a very private, private function.

Tubbs and Edward decide that it's time for David to marry so they can pass the local shop on to him, but Tubbs wonders how they will find a no-tail. Meanwhile, Pauline is determined to get her old job back, as well as a box of pens with her name written on the side.

Geoff, Mike and Brian take a disastrous detour on the way to their plastics convention.

Pauline leaves her hostage with Mickey while she goes in search of food, but is shocked to discover that Royston Vasey has been sealed off by the Red Cross. In the woods, Geoff and Mike try to come to terms with Mike's murder. Meanwhile, Tubbs and Edward brave the local supermarket in search of David's bride, without much success.

As the nose bleed epidemic continues, events come to a head in Royston Vasey. At the Local shop, David's wedding ceremony has begun; Hilary Briss bids a fond farewell to Mrs. Briss as he packs his bags; and at the sports hall cum emergency shelter, Legz Akimbo present their powerful performance piece about homelessness.

It's Christmas Eve at the Chapel of Hope and Rev and vicar Bernice Woodall is forced to listen to three festive tales from her Royston Vasey parishers.
