As Amy's sweet sixteen approaches, new hand Caleb is interested in asking her out on a date. Meanwhile, Amy is fascinated with a white mustang that has been spotted around Heartland. Lou and her dad are working on plans for an "Equine Executive Retreat," but Grandpa Jack is none too thrilled with the idea of an upscale dude ranch on his property.

Ty returns to Heartland to learn he has a rival for Amy's affections. Lou and her father go against Grandpa Jack about the direction of Heartland.

When Amy gets a horse for her birthday, she must decide whether she wants to continue helping at the ranch, or pursue a career in show-jumping.

Lou plans a weekend alone with Scott while the rest of the crew go on a cattle drive. Much to Scott's dismay, Lou's plans hit a snafu when the first customers of the dude ranch show up a week early.

Lou takes three of her former New York co-workers on the Heartland Equine Retreat trail ride. She enlists Jack, Amy and Tim to assist. Ty encounters Kit Bailey for the first time and Caleb introduces Kit to Ashley Stanton to set her up with a training partner and horse. Mallory takes Spartan out for a ride, and loses him momentarily.

Amy tries to help an RCMP horse who's become skittish around water after his constable rescues a 15-year-old from drowning. Lou is awfully smitten by the hunky RCMP constable and Amy still seems mighty intrigued by Caleb. Jack is worried Lisa is too busy for him, after giving Mallory advice on how to get rid of an unwanted boyfriend.

It's rodeo time and the whole Heartland crew is involved. Amy decides to try team roping with Caleb, but when he has second thoughts, Ty is glad to help Amy practice, until Jack convinces Caleb to make good on his commitment and take her back. Meanwhile, Lou loses Soroya, her Queen of the Rodeo contestant, and novice cowboy Ty is left out of the fun.

During a late summer heat wave, Ty's dad shows up with a truck full of sick, thirsty horses bound for the slaughterhouse. Scott and the hands at Heartland work to save them. When Amy recognizes one of the horses as Apollo, Ashley Stanton's old jumping horse, the mystery deepens. Lou looks to rescue the animals and Ty warily spends some time with his disreputable father.

Mallory's dad plans to send her to boarding school. Amy is back in school, leaving more chores to Jack, Caleb and Ty. Much to her mother's dismay, Ashley is staying at Heartland and has promoted herself to VP of guest relations. Ty is still trying to make amends with Amy for his latest relationship snafu and Lou is seeing more of Constable Mark, thanks to a recent upsurge in cattle rustling.

Jack's patience is tried as Tim recuperates from his shooting injury at Heartland ranch. Callie is upset when she finds out that Tim has't told anybody about their relationship. Meanwhile, Amy makes some surprising discoveries about Hank, an elderly ex-owner of a horse she's attempting to re-home.

Hollywood starlet and gossip-rag fodder, Mindy Fanshaw, arrives at Heartland under the pretext of honing her non-existent riding skills in anticipation of an upcoming role. Everyone is thrilled at the prospect of having Fanshaw in their midst, but a confidentiality contract puts a damper on the excitement. Mallory is found hiding out in one of the cabins after escaping from boarding school.

Lisa meddles in Lou's business and personal life with disastrous results. Mackenzie comes back to Heartland to get married, but when a cursed horse also arrives, the wedding is almost called off. Lisa tries to set Lou up on a blind date. Lou blows up at Lisa. The man Lisa tried to set Lou up with sends her an email and Lou answers it.

A big oil company begins unwanted exploration on Heartland property, so Lou mobilizes the community against them. Mallory hints that Ty and Amy are meant for each other and becomes obsessed with Wuthering Heights. Lou continues to have online chats with the man Lisa set her up with and agrees to meet him.

Ty's former probation officer, Clint, brings two troubled kids by the ranch, causing lots of grief. Ty reveals that his stepfather did terrible things to him and his mom. Mallory becomes friendly with one of the kids and converts to a "goth" look.

Kit asks Ty to help her re-home a horse that she was given. Amy agrees to help Caleb with team roping, but backs out when it means being around Kit and Ty. Jack and Tim lock horns about their last competition in the Hudson Derby when Lou resurrects the event as a fund raiser to help Mrs. Bell and others with some county legal problems.

Spartan is stolen and turns up at a horse auction, where he is bought by Wes, the man who tried to burn down the Fleming's barn. Amy is determined to get him back, despite not having the proper bill of sale. Meanwhile, Lou tries to keep her relationship with Peter the oilman quiet.

A traumatized Spartan refuses to jump, so Amy takes him to Victor Whitetail, a Native Canadian who fixes horses and hearts. Meanwhile, Ty struggles to tame his new horse, Harley, on his own. Peter books the entire dude ranch and while trying to keep their relationship a secret, Lou learns something about Peter's past that throws her.

Ty and Amy finally get some alone time when they make a trip up to the mountains to feed some wild horses, but Ty passes out with a high fever and a blizzard makes their remote location a problem. Lou finally comes clean to Jack about the oilman she is dating. Ashley is upset to learn that her mother sponsored Caleb on the rodeo circuit to separate them.
