Surrender and Occupation of Japan

The Japanese Empire surrendered on September 2nd, 1945 in Tokyo Bay on the US battleship MISSOURI. Authorized representatives of the Emperor signed the documents on board the battleship. The Japanese forces in China and Southeast Asia, numbering approximately one million men, did not surrender until September 9th and 12th, 1945.
