The Bridge

Saga Norén is working with the Malmö Police, but she misses her only friend, Martin Rohde, who is now serving a ten year prison sentence. Saga is convinced that she did the right thing when she turned him in, though she can’t spend time with a convicted murderer.

Saga gets a new Danish colleague, Henrik Sabroe, and together they continue to investigate Helle Anker’s murder. When another spectacular murder occurs, with the same attention to aesthetic details, suspicions are turned to a Danish blogger, Lise Friis Andersen. She has openly expressed her disgust with the two murder victims, but denies the allegations.

The police receive a video demanding a ransom in exchange for Hans’ release. They manage to locate him, but when they are about to free him, they find that his kidnapper has been shot and Hans has been abducted again. Is there more than one person out after Hans? Meanwhile, Morten Anker is shot to death.

Hans is still in a coma. Saga makes a mistake in a dramatic hostage situation, but they manage to arrest a suspect who is taken in for questioning. Linn keeps an eye on Saga and thinks that she should take it easy and process everything that happens to her. Meanwhile, a fourth spectacularly staged murder is discovered and Saga and Henrik realize that they don’t have the right suspect.

Lillian discovers a wound in Hans’ mouth, which turns out to be a branding mark. The other two victims are examined again and they also have the same kind of branding mark. The perpetrator is probably branding his victims to punish them for something. But for what? Saga sees that Linn is meeting her mother and realizes that they are talking about her.

Saga and Henrik see a connection between the victims and some artwork hanging in a museum. All of the artwork is owned by Freddie Holst, a well-known and successful Danish business man. Is there a connection between Freddie the victims, or is someone trying to frame him? Meanwhile, they discover a fifth murder - which can also be connected to a piece of art.

An older couple is found murdered in a spectacular fashion in their house outside Ystad. They have a connection to a piece of art and they both have branding marks in their mouths, just like the previous victims. Now there is probably only one victim left and everything indicates that it will be Freddie Holst, but he refuses to accept police protection.

The hunt for the killer intensifies, and Saga and Henrik are certain of his identity. But when they are about to bring him in, he has disappeared. They are surprised by the next victim, who is clearly linked to the case, which now takes a completely new direction. The killer has a refined plan and is waiting to execute his big finale.

Saga has been forced to take a leave of absence from the investigation and her old colleague Rasmus Larsson takes her place. Freddie Holst is desperately searching for Jeanette, who is carrying his unborn child. When he finds her, she is tied up. She has recently given birth and her newborn baby is gone. Freddie contacts the police and Henrik demands that Saga return to the investigation.

The hunt for the perpetrator and Freddie’s newborn baby continues. Freddie gets an SMS from the kidnapper with a picture of the baby and a meeting place. He manages to slip away from police surveillance and meet the perpetrator and the baby as agreed, but when Saga and Henrik arrive, they are gone without a trace. Saga and Henrik find crucial evidence that leads them in the right direction.
