As the war nears its end, Rene dithers over his affair, the colonel and Gruber return from Spain and Edith is faced with a grave situation.

Rene, having been captured by the Communist Resistance, tries to find a way to escape. Flick and Smallhausen pretend they are English.

Rene is supposed dead and a parade is held in his honour, but he is in fact hiding in the museum.

Herr Flick and Von Smallhausen plan to kidnap Yvette and Mimi, dress up like them and go to the cafe to search for the painting.

The plans of the retreating Germans conflict with those of the good folk of Nouvion as the day of the Fishmonger's Parade dawns.

Rene and the cafe staff prepare to welcome the invading British troops, and soon find that the invasion party includes a couple of old friends.
