Professional relationships are put to the test when Morse gets tasked with reviewing progress on the case. Meanwhile, a dead body is discovered following the first ever Women"s Liberation Movement conference.

Racial tensions ramp up in Oxford, and a clash between rival gangs ends in tragedy. As Morse and Thursday investigate an extremist group known as British Movement, tragedy strikes a second time, at an Indian restaurant in the city. Old tensions between the detectives continue to mount.

What seems a freak accident at Lady Matilda"s College may be linked to a series of peculiar incidents across the city. Despite Thursday"s skepticism, Morse becomes convinced something sinister is at play. Meanwhile, Lady Matilda"s is resisting becoming a coeducational institution, and when one of its students is attacked, the others decide to take matters into their own hands.
